- On the last weekend in August, John & Brad Whitford of Aerosmith did a guitar swap. Brad gave John his custom shop Les Paul and his Fender Gold plated Stratocaster for John’s Bill Nash Strat. All went home happy.

- John will be conducting a blues workshop in Washington N.C., April 4 at the Beaufort Co. Traditional Music Festival. Other guests will include Rodney Dillard of the Bluegrass Band The Dillards. (They are the ones that portrayed the Darlins in the Andy Griffith Show).
- John participated in the recent Dave Brubeck Jazz Festival in Washington DC in April. There he hung out with
the legendary master himself.
- The Greensboro News and Record interviewed John for a story that will run Sunday July 22. It will include some
of the areas other working musicians deal with and what it takes to survive as a musician in the Triad.
- On Sunday, April 22 from noon until 5PM John will be set up as a vendor at the GUITAR & PRO
AUDIO SHOW in Greensboro at Eagle Rock-Cafe Jam 4711-A High
Point Rd.
- Go Triad's Winston-Salem columnist Kathy Clark described John's music store, Brookstown Stringed Instruments in the newspaper. John opened the shop on 414 Brookstown Avenue in Winston Salem in early May.
Says Clark: "It's a friendly place where guitar geeks and novices alike can relax in the company of experts who offer their knowledge without pretension, service with a smile and humorous banter."
John's shop has filled a void created when Sam Moss closed his shop a few years ago.
John is a long-time veteran on the music scene who has played and repaired guitars for decades. John also teaches guitar and banjo in his accompanying studio at the Brookstown shop.

- John opened Brookstown Stringed Instruments & Repair. The store will offer a full line of stringed instruments, as well as lessons and repairs. They are geared toward the professional musician, but will also cater to the recreational player as well. - John has a new CD that covers 25 years of Playing with various Friends & Bands. It is titled "The 25 years I can't Remember to Forget".
- SoundTree Enterprises contacted John to be a consultant on their GEC units. These are the guitar labs that they use as teaching tools sold to schools and other teaching facilities.
- Journal writer Ed Bumgardner explores John's musical tastes in his column "In My CD Player" (click here)
- Relish writes up John's "School of Rock" at the Winston-Salem Middle School Guitar Lab - click here
- John was contacted by Tree House Recording Studio to provide guitar tracks to an upcoming Warner Brothers Film. The tracks include country music for a bar room scene. The sound track got great reviews and a hand written letter of approval from the movie producer.
- John has new C.D. of anecdotes from WKRR Rock 92 when he does a radio show with Bob Margolin who played guitar many years for the late, great, Muddy Waters. Bob offers insight to the great Muddy and performs live with John on the radio.
